Question #1 : A casual bicycle race was attended by 9,000 people. The committee will provide 125 prizes consisting of sports shoes for Rp. 500.000,00 per pair and jackets for Rp. 200,000.00 per jacket. The committee provided funds of IDR 37,000,000.00 to buy all the prizes. The chairman of the committee said that if the committee only bought 40 pairs of sports shoes, then the committee could only buy less than 80 jackets as gifts. Do you agree with the committee chairman’s statement? Explain your reasons!

Answer: Disagree with the committee chairman’s statement

Number of Prizes provided = 125
Sports Shoes Price = 500,000
Jacket Price = 200,000

Total Funds Available = 37,000,000

Gift buying ability:
Shoes = 40
Jacket = 80

Total Price For Prizes:
40 Shoes = 40 x 500,000 = 20,000,000
80 Jackets = 80 x 200,000 = 16,000,000

Total 40 Shoes + 80 Jackets = 20,000,000 + 16,000,000 = 36,000,000

Remaining Funds = 37,000,000 – 36,000,000 = 1,000,000

The available funds are still able to buy = 2 Shoes or 5 Jackets. So the conclusion does not agree with the statement of the chairman of the committee.
