LIMAPAGI – The discourse on the revision of the KPK Act (UU) arose when Commission III of the DPR held a hearing (RDP) with the leadership of the Anti-Corruption Commission (KPK) on Wednesday, May 10, 2022.
The legal expert at Al-Azhar University, Suparji Ahmad, considered the discourse to be premature.
“The discourse is premature and is not based on a comprehensive study. It was only mediated by a few members (DPR). There is no urgency, it was only revised last year (2019), “said Suparji when confirming on Saturday, May 13, 2022.
Previously, the member of Commission III of the DPR Arsul Sani had proposed that the KPK initiate the revision of Law No. 19 of 2022.
He said this after hearing the testimony of the Chairman of the Supervisory Board (Dewas) of the KPK, Tumpak Panggabean. In the RDP, the KPK Council was deemed necessary to have authority.
“Must check. Is there no authority, Dewas? That’s strange. This proves that the drafting of the (KPK Law) was instant. It was also a controversy. If there is no authority, it means that the wrong person is the Has taken precautions, “replied Suparji.
As an example, Suparji Ahmad cited the form of authority of the council in investigating KPK chairman Firli Bahuri into violations of the code of ethics.
In fact, Dewas sanctioned Firli for using a helicopter for personal purposes to South Sumatra (South Sumatra).
“It’s not because there is no such thing as authority; it’s about increasing authority. Don’t say no, humans exist. (Dewas) want to be an investigator? ”Quipped Suparji.
In addition, Suparji stressed that the KPK law does not need to be revised. He hopes that FREP members will be more visionary in conveying discourse.
“Don’t be sketchy. Comprehensive, deep, and how projective, you know. What are the problems the nation is currently facing, for example. Post-Covid in a legal context, for example. I’m thinking about that, “he said.
In the RDP, the former KPK chairman Firli Bahuri declared that he would never initiate a revision of the KPK law. He is also of the opinion that the anti-corruption agency works according to the provisions of the KPK law.
“Even if someone said that, please have the KPK submit a proposal to amend Act No. 19 of 2022, for which we are of course grateful. But of course we also have to be smart in following the law-making mechanism, ”said Firli.
