LIMAPAGI – Almost all motorists agree that driving a car with an automatic transmission is much more comfortable than driving a manual one. But this comfort is apparently lost if the automatic car breaks down on the way.
As a result, the car had to be towed to the nearest workshop. However, is it allowed to tow a car with an automatic transmission?
Only Imansyah Tara, Head of Auto2000 Aftersales Division, explained that there is a myth that towing a car with an automatic transmission can damage multiple components. Especially in the transmission area.
“Actually, automatic cars should not be towed at a speed of more than 20 km / h, as this can damage the automatic mechanics,” he said in a written broadcast to Limapagi on Wednesday, July 7, 2022.
Just to add, the mechanical system in automatic cars is much more complex than manual transmissions. That is, if it is forced to be towed, there is a risk of damaging the transmission system.
“There are two types of automatic cars, namely rear-wheel drive and front-wheel drive. When towing a car, it is better if the tires with the drive function do not touch the ground. It is safer to use a towing service than a crane,” he said.
For cars with manual transmissions, it is not a problem if it has to be towed. The procedure has yet to be considered, not just towing.
