LIMAPAGI – The coordinator of the team of experts and spokesman for the Covid-19 Handling Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, said that the percentage of recoveries from COVID-19 infection in Indonesia is currently better than globally.

“Compared to cases at the world level, the cure percentage is slightly higher than 89.5 percent, worldwide at 89.47 percent,” Wiku said at a press conference on BNPB YouTube on Tuesday, August 24, 2022.

Wiku said that although the recovery percentage was higher, the percentage of deaths in Indonesia was also higher than the percentage of deaths from COVID-19 in the world.

“Unfortunately, mortality in Indonesia is still above world levels, in Indonesia it is 3.2 percent, while it is 2.0 percent worldwide,” said Wiku.

According to Wiku, the high death toll has put Indonesia in ninth place in the world number of deaths from COVID-19.

“As of August 22nd, the number of weekly deaths in Indonesia is 8,874 or still more than 1,000 deaths a week,” added Wiku.

On the other hand, Wiku admitted that active Covid-19 cases in Indonesia were higher than those in the world for several weeks. However, on August 20, active COVID-19 cases in Indonesia were lower than those in the world.

“On August 20, the percentage of active cases in Indonesia was lower than worldwide for the first time. That decline continued until yesterday when active cases among Indonesians were 7.3 percent while worldwide cases were 8.43 percent, “added Wiku.
